Faizon Brandon, JR. QB and University of Tennessee commit, has been named the Gatorade North Carolina Football Player of the Year.
At the time of Brandon’s selection, the 6-foot-4, 202-pound junior quarterback passed for 2,159 yards, 27 touchdowns and just one interception this past season, leading the Whirlies (13-0) to the Class 4A postseason quarterfinals.
He is ranked as the nation’s No. 1 prospect in his class by 24/7 Sports, completed 76.3 percent of his throws and averaged 12.7 yards per attempt through 13 games. He also rushed for 564 yards and eight scores, averaging 9.9 yards per carry.
Brandon also works hard in the classroom maintaining a waeighted GPA of 3.83.
Since 1985, the Gatorade Player of the Year award has recognized the nation’s most elite high school student-athletes for their accomplishments on and off the field. Gatorade awards each winner with a $1,000 grant to be donated to a local or national youth sports organization of the athlete’s choice.
In each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, one Gatorade State Player of the Year is awarded in 12 sports. From this pool of state winners, 12 Gatorade National Players of the Year are then selected.
